Hands-on vehicle extrication · junkyard evolutions · Engineer Jason Anderson
2 cars You = instructor, hands off New FFs each do: door pop · windshield · B-post No steering-wheel displacement today
1

The Opening — first 5 minutes

  1. Safety brief. Full PPE, gloves, eye-pro. Watch footing, sharp steel, glass. One word today is STOP — anyone calls it, everyone freezes. Captains are the safety backstop. “Everybody good? Sound off.”
  2. The mission. “By the time we leave, our newest — Dantly and the two new guys — will each have popped a door, taken a windshield, and done a B-post blowout. Everyone else runs a position. Nobody stands around.”
  3. The system. “Every car runs the same 4 steps — Size-Up, Stabilize, Peel & Peek, Tactics. It’s all on the site — pull it up on your phones.”
  4. Go. Assign the first seats, walk to Car 1, start with the size-up.
If your mind blanksYour reset button is always: “What’s our next step in the system?” — ask the group. Nerves become their engagement.

Standing Rules — all day

Rule
Every door, latch and hood is locked and smashed — “try before you pry” will fail. They still verbalize it every single time.
  • Rescue Officer runs the size-up on every evolution — hands OFF tools.
  • Safety Officer enforces the rules on every evolution — hands off.
  • During the actual cutting: only the Cutters & Spreaders team is hands-on. Rescue Officer watching, Safety Officer nearby, everyone else in line, watching.
  • Any “STOP” = everyone freezes, no questions.
